In support of the QLA project, we are in search of a smart, enthusiastic individual to join the team as its first Data Analytics & Security Specialist. Inspired by an ambitious mandate, and led by the Project Developer, you will be play an active role as the team works to build and maintain analytical models that mine large sets of structured, semi-structured and unstructured data in search of unique insights and correlations not evident through traditional Data Warehouse or Business Intelligence techniques.
The Data Analytics & Security Specialist will leverage a deep understanding of math, applied statistics and computer programming to build complex models for a variety of data from the telecommunication, agriculture, health care, manufacturing, retail and financial services industries. He/she will also assist in the development and implementation of data access security safeguards and protective measures to ensure protection of computer data from internal and/or external users; does related work as required.
You will be at ease to work in a start-up mode environment and alongside mathematical scientists, researchers and scholars dedicated to building Big Data in Rwanda. You will interact and collaborate with a diverse team of administrative, program and financial professionals across our global Network. This is a full time, opportunity based at the QLA Centre of Excellence in Kigali, Rwanda.

- REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MScs/ PhD in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics or related field
- At least 2 years’ experience applying machine learning algorithms, predictive modeling, data mining, machine learning, and statistical analysis to solve business problems
- 2+ years’ experience in data science and security
- Typically requires 1-3 years’ experience manipulating large datasets and using databases
- Knowledge of technical infrastructure, networks, databases and systems in relation to IT Security and IT Risk
- Experience with business intelligence software such as Tableau, QlikView, and MicroStrategy
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of SQL, NoSQL and a statistical environment such as R, SAS, SPSS, or Stata
- Programming skills in Python, Java, C++, or similar languages
- Skilled in complex problems solving, critical thinking and decision-making
- A team player and good communicator with fluency in English, verbal and written
- Has strong analytical skills and innate curiosity
- Familiar with Agile methodology
- Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
- Desire and willingness to work in a collaborative, innovative, flexible and team- oriented environment
- Excellent understanding of project management principles
- Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously
- Enthusiasm to work in a culturally diverse organisation
- Able to travel across the world
- May be required to work outside of normal business hours
